Here’s a suggestion for the n number of people that still use cable… I know it’s at least 8 or 9 people so this will be a worthy blog entry.

When you have in mind to begin mindlessly watching television, in order to avoid watching commercials and also impress onto yourself in a moment of lethargy a bit of discipline, I challenge you to find something you’d like to watch, mindlessly albeit, and proceed to click onto the channel. Once you’ve landed on the channel (assuming you have a DVR which most all cable boxes do) pause your show/movie/porno. Then spend 10 minutes doing something of excitement, like busting out some pushups, getting some sunlight, reading a Financial Times article; all the while happily anticipating the satisfying mindlessness yet to be all yours.

What makes this exercise so wonderful is not the fact that by spending 10 or 15 minutes doing something productive you get to watch your content without commercial breaks, or the fact that you have done something worthwhile and then have awarded yourself in some capacity, releasing that swell stuff dopamine up in your cranium… the wonder of this practice is the absolutely unquestionably blissful experience of skipping through ads.

If I could get an HBO subscription where they played regular cable commercials but you could skip through all of them, I’d prefer that over no commercials. To just watch Flo and pill ads and organic dog food bags flash across the screen for a few seconds is like heaven come down to earth. No beginning and no end and no Wegovy theme songs. Ah yes.

Cheers!
